A few maturity models

The story of the Capability Maturity Model started, according to Wikipedia, in 1986 with the U.S. Department of Defense. Since then a CMM institute was established and several models were developed.

I found it useful to develop a model for a particular area with a subject matter expert and apply it, answering the Three Main Questions:

  1. Where are we?
  2. Where are we heading to?
  3. How do we get there?

It's important to understand that the criteria in the model are not comprehensive, but rather indicative. It's also important, that the model defines absolute levels, so it should be updated as new practices emerge. The levels themselves can be depicted using the radar chart, which many top managers from my experience find intuitive and easy to understand. So, I decided to publish the following models:

Special thanks to the people, who helped me a lot with my development effort:

  • Andrey Malakhov for Project Management Maturity Model
  • Ekaterina Mityasova for Sales Maturity Model

Enjoy!
